I'm a newbie here and to spearing my question is.... is it OK to use a chain saw to cut spearing holes? I don't have a auger but I have a saw with a 30" bar I thought it would be possible to cut a hole into smaller blocks then use tongs to pull them out. just looking for input on this idea (not even sure if its legal to do) Thanks

Yeah My family has used them for years your leg may get alittle wet and put it in your shanty after you use it if you plan on cutting more holes or it will freeze up I bought a hand ice saw it works great

Hey Rodman, When I got started spearing a buddy and I used a chain saw. He wore normal chain saw chaps and stayed a little drier. Now we have moved up to an ice saw and tongs and it is much easier.
